Okay loved this book so much。 They was that Neil writes this book is just so engaging。 I love that it teaches you magic tricks inside the book。 I really don't want to say much about the book。 It's about this boy named Carter and he finds some new friends and it's about there magical adventures。 This all happens in a small town called Mineral Wells。 I can't wait too read this to my son when he gets old enough。 Okay loved this book so much。 They was that Neil writes this book is just so engaging。 I love that it teaches you magic tricks inside the book。 I really don't want to say much about the book。 It's about this boy named Carter and he finds some new friends and it's about there magical adventures。 This all happens in a small town called Mineral Wells。 I can't wait too read this to my son when he gets old enough。 。。。more

Such a fun story about found family and magic!

My granddaughter shared a book she enjoyed with me。 I was intrigued that it was written by one of my favorite actors。 What a fun read! I love the idea of a group of “misfits” banding together to help their town。 These kids realized how important friendship and working together are。 While I’m not a huge fan of the author breaking into the egg story to speak directly to the reader, it works in this book。 Now my granddaughter and I need to try some of the magic tricks!

Young magicians adventureCarter is an orphan who lived with a bad uncle that used him to steal from people。He run away and take a train ride to another beautiful small town where he met a magician and his family。Now he got new friends who like magic and would help him to gain some trust back。 The book is written for teenagers who like adventure and secret code。 There are quite a lot of those。 Also, there are in-between chapters that give beginner level magic tricks。 Lovely。 It is a fun read and Young magicians adventureCarter is an orphan who lived with a bad uncle that used him to steal from people。He run away and take a train ride to another beautiful small town where he met a magician and his family。Now he got new friends who like magic and would help him to gain some trust back。 The book is written for teenagers who like adventure and secret code。 There are quite a lot of those。 Also, there are in-between chapters that give beginner level magic tricks。 Lovely。 It is a fun read and a fun books with secret messages。 Looking for them now。。。。 And the story is about teenagers against bad guys who want to steal from people。 The diversity in characters and background has sent a message that just written words。 There are two gay dads with an adopted daughter, a best friend in wheelchair。 Like real life, people are diverse, but they could be friends and do things together。 And the difference doesn't really matter。 It is no big deal。 And that's the treatment in this book。Highly recommended it。 Especially for children and teens。 。。。more

DNF at page 44。 It was not going anywhere。 Did not like writing style。 I tried reading with my 9 year old and we were both bored。 It seemed like the author was trying too hard。

Read with my H。 😊

Sorta reminds me of The Series of Unfortunate Events

I'm giving it two stars since it was professionally edited at least and I liked the found family vibes, I guess。 Overall I found it a chore to get through。 I wasn't invested in the story nor any of the characters。 If I'm being honest, I borrowed this book on impulse from the library, so perhaps if I'd done more research on the book I never would've picked it up in the first place。 I'm giving it two stars since it was professionally edited at least and I liked the found family vibes, I guess。 Overall I found it a chore to get through。 I wasn't invested in the story nor any of the characters。 If I'm being honest, I borrowed this book on impulse from the library, so perhaps if I'd done more research on the book I never would've picked it up in the first place。 。。。more

Incredibly simplistic。 You can definitely tell it was written by someone who is not an author by trade。 Really predictable and overused storyline about orphans banding together。 Annoying interludes about magic tricks and the whole thing is laced with "codes", which might be cool to a 9 year old but honestly it just feels forced。 Also there's a character in a wheelchair who seems to hate herself for her disability? Not a great choice。 Some other tokenism too。 Not a series I'm at all interested to Incredibly simplistic。 You can definitely tell it was written by someone who is not an author by trade。 Really predictable and overused storyline about orphans banding together。 Annoying interludes about magic tricks and the whole thing is laced with "codes", which might be cool to a 9 year old but honestly it just feels forced。 Also there's a character in a wheelchair who seems to hate herself for her disability? In my opinion, this is the best book ever! Here are some reasons why I feel this way。 The first reason is the characters inspired me to make my own magic group。 The second reason is in the table of contents they make little conversations。 My final rain is at the beginning of the story Carter has a backstory。 As you can see, the Magic Misfits is the best book ever。

this was a awesome book, i loved it。 although there was not as much mystery as i had hoped it was overall very good, i especially liked the very start and the very ending。 i cant wait to start reading the second book。

Fabulous! Fantastic! Fun! Engaging! Exciting! Excellent! Brilliant writing。 The use of adjectives is astounding。 A fantastic way to engage young readers into wanting more。 The friendships made throughout the story are lovely。 The lessons of practice, practice, practice coming from these pages are perfect。

This book is beautiful, it has characters that are unlike any other。 Some strengths that this book has is that it interacts with the readers, it teaches them tricks to do and has puzzles inside of it。 Some of the weaknesses it has is that some parts just branch off into another idea。 Sometimes it makes sense, and sometimes it sounds like something random was just shoved into the book。 I definitely recommend this book to other people。

I listen to this book, as it is read by Neil Patrick Harris。 Fun quick listen。 I love when the author narrates their own work, I can imagine how the characters acts and sounds。

this is very cute and a super quick read。 i really liked that it included some magic tricks for the kids to learn。it’s really a book targeted towards the younger reader and so as an adult i found some sections a little too childish and silly but it’s not for my age range so that’s okay。i did think that the entire book was done a bit too quickly and wrapped up too needly。also it was never explained why a child would be given to a homeless man instead of to a foster home or something similar?i und this is very cute and a super quick read。 i really liked that it included some magic tricks for the kids to learn。it’s really a book targeted towards the younger reader and so as an adult i found some sections a little too childish and silly but it’s not for my age range so that’s okay。i did think that the entire book was done a bit too quickly and wrapped up too needly。also it was never explained why a child would be given to a homeless man instead of to a foster home or something similar?i understand it drove the story but i think that was a little too far fetched and could have been done better。the other thing was that the kids got along and became really friends way to fast! from kids that are bullied to best friends with a stranger in 5 seconds? mhm。also each kid had this unique thing about it then that wasn’t really fitting for the age range? it felt a bit like the book tried to hard to show that it doesn’t matter what your like or do or your hobbies are, no matter how gib don’t seem to fit (which is clearly the entire play with the title) you will find somewhere where it all makes sense。 it’s a nice sentiment。 and it’s a good message。but it was very heavy handed。and overall the entire book had this tone that reminded me of the series of unfortunate events -even though i read those when i was what 10?- but the entire way to describe and write moments, how over the top the and guy were and how it all worked together and the kids managed it all? that just had this very reminiscing tone。i did like that there are a two das household。 it’s always nice to see that represented especially in books targeted towards younger readers。 still it’s a cute story and for a young reader it’s cute。 i wouldn’t really recommend it too adult readers of you don’t read it with a child。 。。。more

Pretty cute and made all the more fun by the fact that I listened to the audiobook which was read by NPH。 I loved the how-to guides sprinkled throughout。 It was light and fun。

Dragon Is In Her Book Cave

A fun but flawed book。 The kids at my library seem to really like it, and it might make a good recommendation for kids who aren't ready for A Series of Unfortunate Events (which Neil Patrick Harris is obviously channeling here) but are looking for something similar and much less grim。 It certainly is more inclusive than Unfortunate Events。 But even the representation itself is somewhat flawed。 Perhaps more consideration and care will be given to these characters in the sequels。  Additionally, I A fun but flawed book。 The kids at my library seem to really like it, and it might make a good recommendation for kids who aren't ready for A Series of Unfortunate Events (which Neil Patrick Harris is obviously channeling here) but are looking for something similar and much less grim。 It certainly is more inclusive than Unfortunate Events。 But even the representation itself is somewhat flawed。 Perhaps more consideration and care will be given to these characters in the sequels。  Additionally, I found some scenes a bit too saccharine and some plot developments a bit too convenient。 I was unmoved by the occasionally overbearing narrative voice that dolled out schmaltzy lessons on the meaning of magic and painted a sentimental view of the world。 While the kids in The Magic Misfits have their fair share of struggles, I can definitely say that Violet, Klaus and Sunny of Unfortunate Events understood that life can be quite bleak and pluck and cleverness do not so effortlessly and inevitably triumph over evil。 Everything just seemed to work out too easily for these Magic Misfits kids!   Still, I appreciate what Neil Patrick Harris did here, the excitement and imagination he brought to this story。 He includes puzzles for kids to solve and sections on how to perform magic tricks, which is definitely a win for the kids at my library。     。。。more

This may have been a 4 star read if I hadn’t listened to the audio, NPH is magic。 This story was adorable and I love how inclusive the characters are。 Plus the random bits of magic lessons thrown in- PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE! Cannot wait for book 2!

I thought this was a fun book! Great for fans of Lemony Snicket and his conversational style of writing。 The ending was predictable, but for kids, I think it works。 The overall themes are pretty generic and unoriginal, but this does not mean that they are unimportant。 Overall, I thought it was fun and would recommend it to my students。

Read to my daughter。 Very cute

That was so fucking cute i would give that book to my hypothetical child

This was a book my daughter and I would read together before bedtime。 I thought it was super cute and I loved all the little details that were hidden and I was actually surprised by the ending, which for a kids book I thought was pretty great!

。。。more
